Your Loan Limit and Eligibility: What You Need to Know

Thinking about taking a loan through Foneloan? Before you apply, you probably have a few questions. “Is my bank a partner bank?” “Am I eligible?” “How much can I borrow?” This guide answers all three in simple steps.

Is my bank a partner bank?

Foneloan doesn't have a separate app. Instead, it works through the mobile banking apps of our partner banks. Our current partner banks are:

    • NIC Asia Bank

    • Nepal Investment Mega Bank

    • Nabil Bank

    • Machhapuchhre Bank

    • Agriculture Development Bank

    • Kumari Bank

    • Laxmi Sunrise Bank

    • Rastriya Banijya Bank

    • Citizens Bank

    • Prabhu Bank

    • Everest Bank

Some banks use their own name for the service, such as Smart FoneLoan at Laxmi Sunrise Bank or E-Paicho Foneloan at Everest Bank. If your bank's banner reads a little differently, it is still Foneloan.

If your bank is on this list, open your mobile banking app and look at the home screen. If you see a Foneloan banner, you're good to go.

If your bank is on the list but you don't see the banner, you may not be eligible at the moment. Keep reading to find out what can help.

    Who is eligible for Foneloan?

Eligibility is worked out automatically from your account activity, using criteria set by your bank. Criteria differ from bank to bank. Some banks focus on salary accounts, while others also offer Foneloan to regular accounts. In general, there are two ways to become eligible:

    • Salary account: Your salary is deposited into your account regularly and on time. Many banks look at several months of salary history.

    • Any other account: Your account shows consistent monthly deposits and regular transactions. It doesn't have to be a salary account.

Some banks also check that you have no other outstanding loan with them. For the exact rules, check with your bank.

What decides your eligibility and loan limit?

Your eligibility and loan limit are not fixed. They can go up or down depending on how you use your bank account. Here's what usually matters most:

    1. Positive account activity. Regular, healthy activity in your account, such as deposits and everyday transactions, shows that you manage your money well. The more positive activity your account has, the better your chances.

    2. Timely repayment of loans. Paying back your loans on time is one of the best ways to build trust. If you repay on or before the due date, your limit can grow over time. Late payments can bring it down.

    3. Minimum balance maintained. Keeping at least the minimum balance in your account helps keep you eligible. If your balance regularly falls below the minimum, your eligibility and limit may be affected.

    How much can I borrow?

Your limit is personal to you and depends on your bank and your account history. Loans can be small, and amounts of up to NPR 2 lakh have been offered by partner banks. Your own limit may be lower, and it can change over time as your account activity and repayment history change.

What if I'm not eligible yet?

Not seeing the banner doesn't mean you can never get a loan. Your status can change as your account activity changes. To improve your chances:

    • If you have a salary account, make sure your salary is deposited on time every month.

    • If you don't have a salary account, make regular deposits every month.

    • Keep an adequate balance and pay any existing loans on time.

Keep up these habits and check your mobile banking app from time to time. Once you meet your bank's criteria, the Foneloan banner can appear on your home screen.

How to check your eligibility and loan limit

No need to download anything new. Just follow these steps:

Step 1: Open your bank's mobile banking app and log in.

Step 2: Look for the Foneloan banner on the home screen. If your bank doesn't show a banner, you are not eligible at the moment.

That's it! You'll know right away where you stand.

    Fees and repayment

Before you apply, check the charges your bank applies. These usually include a processing fee and interest on the loan until the due date. Repayment options depend on your bank. Some offer repayment within one month, and some also offer EMI. Your app will show the options available to you.

Why does my banner look different from someone else's?

The Foneloan banner is personalized. Two people using the same bank can see different things, because each person's eligibility and loan limit depend on their own account activity, repayment history and balance. Your banner may also change over time as these change.
